Taylor Woodrow Wins £19m Wolverhampton City Centre Revamp Contract

Taylor Woodrow has secured a £19 million contract to transform Wolverhampton city centre, with construction work set to begin later this month. The project forms the third and final phase of the City of Wolverhampton Council’s city centre improvements programme and will be carried out in stages over two-and-a-half years. Planned upgrades include wider, safer streets, new public event spaces, enhanced greenery and seating, and improved access for buses, cycles, and taxis across Lichfield Street, Queen Square, and Darlington Street.

Councillor Chris Burden, Cabinet Member for City Development, Jobs, and Skills, emphasised the importance of the revamp, stating that the improvements will enhance Wolverhampton’s appeal for businesses, residents, and visitors. He highlighted the creation of better walking and cycling routes, event infrastructure, and a more vibrant urban environment as key factors in supporting the local economy. The redevelopment is designed to make the city more attractive for leisure, transport, and city-centre living.

The city centre revamp aligns with other major regeneration projects, such as the £150 million Interchange and commercial district and the City Centre West and Canalside developments, which will introduce thousands of new homes. Together, these initiatives will create hundreds of new jobs, attract investment, and further revitalise Wolverhampton, solidifying its role as a growing hub for business and urban development.
