Menfor Group is working with Careys PLC on Wates’ milestone £100 million expansion of HMP Onley in Warwickshire, the first project in the new rollout to progress into construction.
The scheme will deliver 180 new Category C prison places across three 60-bed houseblocks, alongside a new vocational training workshop and the refurbishment of existing kitchens, classrooms, and office facilities.
The Small Secure Houseblocks programme forms part of the government’s wider prison-building strategy to ease capacity pressures, providing approximately 1,000 additional places nationwide. More than 65% of the new houseblocks will be manufactured off-site using a standardised design, reducing carbon emissions, accelerating delivery, and ensuring consistent security standards.
